Stourhead

Stourhead is a 2,650 acre (11 kmĀ²) estate in south west Wiltshire at the source of the River Stour. The gardens were designed in the mid-18th century by the banker Henry Hoare II, who owned the estate. The lake was achieved by the construction of a dam accross the Stour. Since 1946 the estate has been owned by the National Trust and has been their second most visited property, behind Wakehurst, several years running. Henry Flitcroft designed many of the garden's neoclassical features, such as the bridge.

This was taken close to sunset in early November 2006, when the exotic collection of trees were displaying their autumn colours.
