Dorset is a rural county in the south of England. The major settlements are Poole/Bournemouth, Weymouth and Dorchester, plus several small market towns. The landscape of the county is mixed, with chalk downs, wide vales, and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site on the English Channel coast. Read more at Wikipedia.

Hi
Came across this excellent collection of Dorset photos by accident.
Just need to add a correction to the text relating to the radio station on Rampisham Down.
The site now belongs to VT Communications and does indeed relay BBC World Service broadcasts not only to Europe but worldwide on the high frequency (HF) or shortwave bands.
In the current commercial climate where maximising revenue from such facilities is essential, the company also leases airtime at the site to other international broadcasters, such as Algeria's Holy Qu'ran Network and NHK's Radio Japan, who wish to provide better signals into western Europe than would be possible with transmitters located on their own territory.
There are no domestic radio transmitters at Rampisham on either long wave, medium wave or VHF/FM, however there is a small UHF television transmitter which acts as a local relay for the main regional station at Stockland Hill.
The Rampisham site has also participated in experimental transmissions using the new digital modulation system known as Digital Radio Modiale (DRM) which may eventually replace the Amplitude Modulation (AM) used on long, medium and shortwaves. DRM provides almost FM-like quality and also stereo while taking up much less space on the crowded radio dial.
